rocks and roots

OMG.

Since July 12th, we have done 40.7 miles on the AT.

7.12.12----We got up at 0400 after staying the night at Phil's cabin..He dropped us off at the Ranger Station at Katahdin Stream Campground where we signed in and got started on our journey! Phil kept telling us this will be the hardest climb on your trip. "It will be grueling, treacherous, painful, rocky, etc etc etc. Climbing that Katahin, to me, was beautiful, challenging, intimidating, etc. We climbed hand over hand for about 2.8 miles up Abol Trail and then we hiked the remaining 1.5 or so miles to
the summit. AND then we literally bouldered our way back down the side of the mountain. I was terrified the entire time!!
I earned my trail name"Scooter" from my graceful descent. Tony's name is "Hacksaw" because he came out with an American Flag bandana and looked just like a WWF wrestler. I have no idea who that guy is!

Anyways, from the 13th to the 15th we have just been going up and down mountains and down valleys and staying in our tent. We have met
some wonderful people along the way too.

In fact, today I was just feeling worn out and tired and overwhelmed with how much further we had to go, and I was sick of water from the creek and I had blisters on both feet. These 2 angels came out of the woods when we were done and brought us a 6 pack of Pepsi!!!!! I literally almost cried with happiness.

Tomorrow will be a short day ( 8 MILES) so we can recover from the last 4 grueling days....hope everyone at home is doing well! We love and miss y'all!

Y'all is a word only the McKays use up here!
